So after struggling for a few hours deciding how to write this review I finally decided to approach this with the idea that the reader(you) has never played a Telltale Games Series game before. I know this chance may be rare as most gamers have at one point or another played one of these style games. I also didn’t want to spoil any big story related topics in the review. Although I will be touching up on the story a bit to give the reader a idea of what the game is about, I will mainly be focusing on the gameplay itself.

Alright now, unless you have lived under a rock for the past 6 years, you probably have heard of the hit TV show The Walking Dead, while you may not have heard that Telltale games has published and developed a episodic game series centred around the TWD universe. After 2 wildly successful seasons of the game series, Telltale Games has answered fans prayers and delivered Season 3 for us all to enjoy.

The Walking Dead Season 3 is a point more or less a story driven point and click game. Now not point and click like old school games such as Myst, while similar in play, TWD is far more in depth with innovative and interactive story telling. In Season 3 you play as Javier, a young man who was distant from his family for years, all of a sudden how father came ill, then passed away. When he returned home after his fathers passing, after some heated arguments with his older brother, Javier finds his dad has turned from the dead, now a zombie. After zombie dad attacked his wife(Javier's Mother) the family races to get her to the hospital. Only to find that journey wouldn’t be easy. Fast forward a bit in the story and he runs into a face familiar from the previous seasons, Clementine. From here is where the story takes off and I really can't touch up more on it without spoilers, all I can say is wow. This season provides some truly jaw dropping moments.

Alright let's talk about gameplay. As with most Telltale games, TWD is a story being told, as the story is told you control characters in intense situations and help them find what they need, most scenes you are essentially on a rail, meaning no free roaming as you please, during these scenes you will be able to choose what the main character says and does, and the game will present QTE's(quick time events) during these QTE's you must follow on screen cues to either fight or evade danger. When you're not on a rail so to speak, you will have free access to explore the current area you are in, this gives you a chance to speak more to the games other characters and also find items that will lead to story progression. Sometimes this can get a little boring especially if you want action all the time, but the superb story makes up for it by a long shot.

As for graphics the game has drastically improved from previous seasons, while still keeping the cel-shaded look, resolution and speed of scenes are near perfect. The cel-shading is some of the best I've seen to date. Bright vivid colors and precision to detail are some of the graphics main attractions.

Music is also done extremely well, each moment was complimented by a accurate musical tone for every situation.

The achievements couldn’t be easier, for each episode of a season there are 7 achievements, 6 for completing the chapters of a episode then a achievement for completing said episode. For each episode you will net a total of 200G equalling out to 1000G once all 5 episodes are released. Although the 1000G total may or may not be upgraded depending if Telltale decides to take the route they did with Minecraft Story Mode and add more DLC. We can only wait and see though.

So overall TWD Season 3 is a great value, whether you decide to purchase each episode separate($4.99 each or go all in with the season pass($19.99) you will still get your moneys worth. Although I do advise those who care for story over achievements to first go and play Season 1&2 first before starting Season 3, doing so will make it to where the story makes more sense and you will learn to appreciate the series even more than if you only play Season 3. The game provides excellent story, gameplay and graphics all in a package. You will laugh, you will cry and most of all you will be thankful you have this game a chance, TWD is not a game that should be passed up.
