Kitty Powers’ Matchmaker Review - by Zen Vendetta

Kitty Powers’ Matchmaker may seem like a game for children at first glance, but this title is much more than your run-of-the-mill dating simulator.  The sexual innuendos abound, from restaurants called Jerk King and Thai Me Up, to the commentary from Kitty Powers herself.  The language and humour of this game is utterly British, but still quite  humorous to this American gamer.  Achievement hunters can expect easy achievements, but a fair amount of grinding will be necessary for those who like to finish the entire game.

You start the game with a basic, no-frills dating agency and a small clientele and can grow not only your erection (the dating agency, you sickos), but you can also expand your little black book to have more options when finding your client a date.  There are many factors that are put into this title that you might not expect.  You will need to factor personality types and traits to find your dater the “perfect match”  (not always a simple algorithm).  With each date you can expect a myriad of maladies to befall your dater.  Have you ever had to stifle a gut-wrenching fart on a date?   Or had trouble calculating your gratuity?  Or have you had trouble deciphering the content of a menu?  You will relive those experience in the game as well as several other issues that may arise on any given date.  This game has many, many mini-games and memory testers that will test even the mightiest of memories.

I found this game to be a fun title with lots of puns and tongue -in-cheek adult humour.  Definitely more than meets the eye.  It is refreshing to see a dating simulator that allows for same-sex coupling and marriage (quite progressive).  All things considered I really enjoyed this title, but as a person of occasionally limited memory, I did have to “cheat” some of the memory portions of the game.  The one drawback for me, personally, was the conversation betwixt the daters isn’t exactly natural or fluid, and felt robotic and repetitive.  Also the graphics are reasonably simple and cartoon-ish, but for this style of game that actually worked within my preferences and expectations.  All and all, I was not disappointed with the game and will continue to play it in my leisure time, as these sorts of games can be one of my own guilty pleasures.
